My name is Dr. Zachary Fatkin. I am a 1991 graduate and a lifelong resident of the Oley Valley School District. I have been married to Brandi Fatkin, DVM, veterinarian at Oley Animal Clinic for 19 years. We have 4 children, 3 of which are currently enrolled in OVSD. I have owned and operated Fatkin Natural Healing LLC for 22 years. I am running for the school board to restore cooperation, collaboration, and transparency with the community for which the board serves.
Having worked in the health and wellness service industry for 22 years I have a specific interest in the health and safety of our children in the school district. I have spent my entire career focusing on the enhancement of adults' and children’s immune systems through natural means, ie. Diet and supplementation. The past year living through this pandemic I have recognized a need to serve in local government to be a voice of reason and a necessary perspective from which our board would benefit.
I have worked with patients for years which has helped to develop an ability to listen and work well with others. If we can create a board that acts as a cohesive unit to discuss differences and truly works with the parents of our school district great things can happen.
I have done outreach in the community by doing free public speaking events to educate families on the importance of healthy lifestyle habits. Also over the years, I have assisted in coaching local little league teams in the valley. Although not specific to Oley, my business has done fundraising for Veterans Making a Difference. Also, I participated with members of Friedens Lutheran Church in a week-long relief work event called Camp Noah that assisted children that were victims of Hurricane Katrina in coastal Alabama.
I feel I would be an asset to the Oley Valley School board because of my passion to help our children thrive academically, but also have a stable environment in which they can grow into healthy young leaders.
What differentiates me from other school board members / candidates is my unique perspective as a health care provider. I have seen many young children suffering from anxiety disorders at a younger age than ever before. Young children thrive in an environment that is stable, secure, and safe. I feel this is an area I can have an impact with to help these children move forward with confidence and get the most out of their education at Oley Valley.
